How to Cure Bad Dandruff

How to Cure Bad Dandruff

dandruff

Dandruff are small pieces of dead skin in a person’s hair. People sometimes get very embarrassed when they see the dandruff on their clothes from falling out of their hair.  It is a very common scalp condition.  It is not contagious however it can become annoying and difficult to treat.

Mild cases can be cured by a shampoo with a gentle cleanser like Head and Shoulders. More stubborn cases of dandruff often respond to medicated shampoos.

Babies get dandruff but it is called cradle cap. This disorder, which causes a scaly, crusty scalp, is most common in newborns, but it can occur anytime during infancy. Although it can be frightening for parents, cradle cap isn’t dangerous and usually clears up on its own by the time a baby is 3 years old.  Using a certain shampoo and/or cream on the babies head should help this condition.

You can always visit a dermatologist and get some advice on what to use on your head/hair if over the counter shampoos do not work.

At What Age Should I Begin Getting Mammograms?

January 30, 2016 by bFA3K4vEcAHWz

At what age should I begin getting mammograms?

mammoA mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breast.

Mammograms can be used to check for breast cancer in women who have no signs or symptoms of the disease. This type of mammogram is called a screening mammogram. Screening mammograms usually involve two x-ray pictures, or images, of each breast. The x-ray images make it possible to detect tumors that cannot be felt. Screening mammograms can also find microcalcifications (tiny deposits of calcium) that sometimes indicate the presence of breast cancer.

Mammograms can also be used to check for breast cancer after a lump or other sign or symptom of the disease has been found. This type of mammogram is called a diagnostic mammogram. Besides a lump, signs of breast cancer can include breast pain, thickening of the skin of the breast, nipple discharge, or a change in breast size or shape; however, these signs may also be signs of benign conditions. A diagnostic mammogram can also be used to evaluate changes found during a screening mammogram or to view breast tissue when it is difficult to obtain a screening mammogram because of special circumstances, such as the presence of breast implants.

According to the American Cancer Society:

Informed decision-making with a health care provider ages 40-44

Every year starting at age 45-54

Every 2 years (or every year if a woman chooses to do so) starting at age 55, for as long as a woman is in good health

Should I Avoid Soy?

January 30, 2016 by bFA3K4vEcAHWz

Should I Avoid Soy?

soy

Soy contains phytoestrogens-compounds found in whole grains, nuts, and seeds, and many other botanicals, fruits, and vegetables, which have a mild estrogenic effect. These foods are often associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer, as well as reduced cancer recurrence.

The debate has become heated at times regarding the breast cancer/soy controversy. The issue is complex, with some studies showing that eating soy early in life can reduce breast cancer risk. Conversely, the consumption of concentrated soy extracts has been shown to increase the proliferation of breast cancer cells in some studies. And other studies show a protective and/or neutral effect from eating whole soy foods.

Eat whole soy foods like edamame and tofu in moderation-no more than a few servings per week. Fermented soy foods such as miso and tempeh are even better options. And avoid soy protein isolates and supplements containing concentrated soy isoflavones.

Why is Vitamin C important for the body?

January 30, 2016 by bFA3K4vEcAHWz

Why is Vitamin C important for the body?

vitaminc

Vitamin C is absolutely necessary for healthy skin. “It is a powerful antioxidant that can help combat free radicals from environmental aggressors, and also is essential for healthy collagen production.

Aside from getting your daily dose from fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, strawberries, and pineapple, you can also apply it topically or take supplements but it’s important to know the difference between the two. When taking supplements internally, look for those with L-ascorbic acid. It’s more beneficial to the body when taken internally.

Topically, use ascorbyl palmitate, the ester of vitamin C.  It is oil soluble, which means it can penetrate the skin’s barrier layer; it is not acidic, which means it is non-irritant and actually has an anti-inflammatory effect; and it does not break down or oxidize quickly, so its benefits last much longer than L-ascorbic acid.” Just be cautious of vitamin C products and the sun, as they’re known to cause photosensitivity. Use them at night for the best results.

Vitamin C is essential for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It helps the body make collagen, which is an important protein used to make skin, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels.

Tips for making money

January 29, 2016 by bFA3K4vEcAHWz

Tips for making money

Instead of a yard sale, do this!

Planning to make some cash on your unused items with a yard sale?  Well, what if we told you you can get more for electronics, books, clothing and sports equipment by selling them elsewhere.  And, itsmakemoney less hassle for you too! Here is how you can fill your wallet with some extra money:

  • ELECTRONICS – While yard sales shoppers will try to bargain you down, stores are competing to give you top dollar for your old electronic devices, even if they are outdated, dinged, scratched or broken!  Swap them or gift cards at Apple (apple.com/recycling/gift-card), Best Buy (bestbuy.com), Target (targettradeinprogram.com) , and Walmart (walmart.cexchange.com/online/home/index.rails)  Or, opt for cash by visiting gazelle.com or nextworth.com.  Simply input details about your device for an instant quote.
  • BOOKS, CDs and DVDs – At yard sales, it is hard to get enough shoppers to buy all your extra books, cds, or dvds.  The better bet is to sell them on amazon.com which attracts million of shoppers daily. Set up an individual seller’s account at amazon.com/gp/seller-account/mm-summary-page.html.  You can also sell up to 39 items a month fo rno monthly fee, just pay 15% of the sale price or 99 cents whichiever is greater. Plus, a $1.35 closing fee once an item sells.
  • CLOTHING & HANDBAGS – If you have clothing and handbags to sell, consignment shops can help you earn far more than what you would get a garage sale.  To start earning, contact local consignment shops and see when teh review items, then bring yours in. Yo uwill be offered a percentage of the sale of all items that are accepted. Want to get paid on the spot? Once Uon a Child will pay you for children’s gear (onceuponachild.com), Plato’s Closet will pay you for teen styles (platoscloset.com) and Style Encore will pay you for womens fashions (style-encore.com)!
  • SPORTS EQUIPMENT – Forget selling skis,  hockey sticks and other unused sports equipment for just a few dollars to bargain hunters at a yard sale.  Get more money by taking them to your local Play It Again Sports store, which you can find in the yellow pages or by visiting playitagainsports.com.  They take a wide variety of used sports equipment and will give you an offer right ont he spot.  Depending on condition and demand, you typically receive 30% to 50% of the stores resell price, which is 40% to 60% of what the items wold sell for new today!

How to get a great job

January 29, 2016 by bFA3K4vEcAHWz

Help me get a great job!

jobLooking for a job?  Here are some steps so you will happily be employed in no time!

  1. PLAN FOR SUCCESS: Changing careers? Not sure what kind of job you want? Do your research and figure out what job you would want. There are many websites out there. Print out 10 job listings, then highlight the key words or responsibilities they have in common. This helps you focus on what you really want and to even discover strengths or interests you didn’t know you had.
  2. POLISH YOUR RESUME AND COVER LETTER: Your resume should repeat the same key words and phrases that are in the specific job listing.  A great trick to get your resume flagged and into the yes pile is to write the same skill under several different sections.  Always have a cover letter along with your resume. A good cover letter is like shaking hands with the hiring manager.
  3. NETWORK SMARTLY: Head online to linkedin.com and reach out to the companys recruiter or hiring manager for the specific position you have applied to. Express interest in his/her background and how he/she got to their position and be clear about what you want.
  4. INTERVIEW LIKE A PRO: Tell me about yourself  is the hardest question to answer!  Its so open ended.  One of the most common mistakes is just regurgitating the resume. Instead, just answer it in three sentences.  In the firt, give a brief description of your education or training. In the second, summarize your employment history and in the third sentence explain why you are there by saying someothing like “I’m excited about this position because….” Following the rule of three makes you look professional and composed!

GOOD  LUCK!
